Guidance for Liverpool Muslims: Maintaining Calm Amidst Chaos

In light of the recent tragic events in Southport and the subsequent unrest, Liverpool Muslims extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by the horrific stabbing attack. We stand in solidarity with the victims and the entire Southport community during this difficult time. Let us not allow these riots to overshadow the memory of those lost or the suffering of the families impacted by this tragedy.

Our platform is dedicated to spreading positivity, building cohesion, and sharing uplifting stories from the Muslim community. We aim to foster understanding and unity among all communities in Liverpool. However, due to the recent unrest, we feel it is our duty to address these events and provide guidance to ensure the safety and unity of our community.

Emphasising Positivity and Avoiding Hate
We believe in the power of positive narratives and the importance of not giving a platform to hate and negativity. The actions of a few individuals, driven by misinformation and intolerance, do not represent Liverpool or its people. The violent protests that occurred during the vigil for the victims have been deeply distressing. It is crucial to remember that these actions do not reflect the values of our community.

Guidance for the Liverpool Muslim Community

1. Stay Calm and United
We urge both the Muslim and non-Muslim communities to remain calm and united. Avoid areas where irresponsible and hate-promoting individuals may target, for the safety and benefit of everyone. Our focus should be on healing, unity, and supporting one another during this painful time.

2. Avoid Confrontations and Counter-Demonstrations
While we understand the desire to counteract these hateful actions, we ask that you do not engage in any confrontations or counter-demonstrations. Engaging in such actions may escalate tensions and lead to further harm. Instead, focus on peaceful means of supporting the community and promoting unity.

3. Refrain from Online and Offline Hateful Exchanges
We call on everyone to refrain from participating in hateful exchanges, whether online or offline. Such interactions only serve to escalate tensions and further divide our community. Instead, rely on and support local authorities by sharing their guidance and adhering to their advice.

4. Reporting Hate Incidents
If you encounter or witness any hate incidents, please report them to the appropriate authorities. You can report hate crimes to Tell MAMA or directly to the police via the Merseyside Police website.

5. Stay Vigilant and Follow Trusted Guidance
During these chaotic and troubling times, confusion can often dominate. Different organisations and individuals may provide varying guidance, some of which may advocate for counter-protests or retaliation. We urge you to ignore such advice unless it aligns with the local community’s best interests and the guidance of local authorities.

6. Support for Affected Families
The tragic loss of the beautiful children in Southport has deeply affected us all. It is a time for mourning and supporting the affected families, not for further division. Offer your support to those grieving and affected by this tragedy.

Moving Forward
There is much work to be done in the aftermath of these events. We must come together to promote understanding, support one another, and rebuild our community stronger than before. By focusing on positive actions and rejecting hate, we can ensure a brighter and more inclusive future for all.

Final Thoughts
Remain vigilant, stay informed through trusted sources, and continue to support each other with kindness and understanding. Together, we can overcome adversity and build a stronger, more united Liverpool.

In unity and peace,

Liverpool Muslims
